Hi, I have never used a editing program for photos. Can anyone suggest a photoshop edition that is user friendly and easy to use for a newbee?

Photoshop Elements 9 is cheaper than 10 and has lots of easy fixes for beginners including some auto fixes and some guided editing. I also allow much more complex editing. I love mine!

Photoshop Elements 9 is very good, you should be able to get a copy at a good price because 10 has just come out. There is also no need to buy every one that comes out, there aren't that many changes from ome edition to the next.I usually wait 3or3 editions before buying . Try http://www.bhphotovideo.com to see what their price is.

Why not start with the one that came with the camera. It is free and very basic but it is a good place to start for someone who is just beginning.

When you out grow that try some free products. Photoscape is terrific as are others.

Yes....the rule of thumb is to wait 2 or 3 number issues before up grading

I have elements 3 which I found in what they call "The Good Shed" at the dump. It was still sealed. On the internet I saw a program called "PHOTOMATIX". Has anyone used it? and does anyone know if there is a plugin for Elements 3 for it?. It is a HDR program. Thanks for any comments.

Pretty good advice from the other writers above. I would echo most of them by saying get an earlier edition of Photoshop Elements, say 8 or 9. As for a "user friendly" version of Photoshop, the phrase is an oxymoron; there's no such thing. I remember reading an article about Windows where a code writer for Microsoft with 20 years on the job was asked if he pretty much knew everything there was to know about Windows. His answer was that NOBODY knows everything about Windows. Photoshop is kinda like that. Stick with Elements unless you have lots of spare cash and a masochismic streak in your psyche.

I agree. PSE 9 does all I need and then some. The free plugins expand to areas used in full CSE.

If I'm doing basic stuff, I like Lightroom 3.5. If I'm getting into trickier stuff, I use Photoshop CS5 or Paintshop Pro X4.

If you are wanting to learn Photoshop but are looking for a cheaper program let me suggest that you consider Photoshop Elements. It is sometimes known as Photoshop's little brother. It is a very effective program, easy to learn, cheaper than Photoshop and can assist you in doing a lot of changes to a photo, but it is NOT Photoshop! It will suffice as a learning program and does nearly everything that Photoshop does, and is a lot cheaper. It is very easy to later switch to Photoshop if you desire. By the way, try to get the latest version with all the directions to aid in your learning experience.

Thank you photocat, I thought of using the software that came with the camera, I may try it for a little while, I need to recover from the expense of getting the camera. Also, I need to learn to use it I've only had it 1 day. I'm Reading the book and learing 1 page at a time. I would like to evenually upgrade the software and most of you seem to like some version of photoshop, I have received a wealth of information, I have a lot to think about now. Thank you everyone for all of your input.
