So excited gonna start this whole time lapse photography thing. Totally have been inspired by the 5 minute video "The city of Samba". An amazing feat involving over 170K stills. A monumental piece!! But first ill start with something mundane like folding laundry or wrapping presents!
Happy Tuesday!

Check it out!

I started down that path a couple of years ago, but then I realized that I would be taking thousands of photos just to get a short movie. Did I really want to put that much wear on my DSLR? No. So, I got a little Brinno TLC200 camera. It is small and very adjustable in terms of frame rate, play rate, etc.

Here is my first try at time lapse. You can see where I was not paying attention and allowed the battery to die and it was not de-flickered. I used a freeware named Photolapse to put it together. (If you look for it be sure you get it from the guy that produces (http://home.hccnet.nl/s.vd.palen/) it as I have heard that form of the other sources it contains some malware). It took about 2800 shots to put this together.

Wow super! Love that you got the rain too! I can't wait. I've got some ideas. Just trying to figure out how exactly I will do it all. Trial and error begins this weekend weather permitting. 😉

Lowright, there is a piece of firmware called Magic Lantern (http://www.magiclantern.fm/) that has a great intervelometer and is a great improvement over Canons firmware. It is also free. It is put on your memory card and runs along the firmware that is in the camera. As it does not install in the camera it is simple to get rid of if you don't like it. It will allow you to slow down the frame rate while recording movies and when they are played back at full speed you get time lapse. The benefit of this being it does not increase your shutter count and flicker is not an issue. There have been a lot of post about Magic Lantern and I do not think anyone has had a problem with their camera after installing it. You may want to look at it and watch some of the tutorials on youtube before you install it. Personally I think that Canon should already have these features installed. Just a thought.

@ jimni2001

I looked into it. And seriously considered doing it. But was worried about putting it on my camera. I may still one of these days if I'm not happy with the functions from the piece I have now. My camera is my best friend I'd hate to use it as a paper weight! Lol. 😜

Yeah their license agreement put me off a little too. I have had no problems with it after using it for about a year. Canon says they will repair your camera though if it is still under warranty. I use a T2i (550d).

I'm using MagicLantern on my T3i, and have had NO Problems at all.

Where abouts in KY are you?

I was born and raised in Ky too. I live in Arizona now and have since 1974. I still love Ky though. If God made a prettier place He kept it for himself. I lived in Jackson, Hebron, Mason near Williamstown and Newport and my sister currently lives in Liberty.
