I have aCanon 60d which I think is the bees knees I have several lens ie 18-55 55-250mm both canon, also I have just recently purchased the Tamron 18-270mm, this lens is amazing giving wonderful sharp pictures. However I also have a Panasonic fz48 , I find this camera amazing the zoom is amazing I have to say I'm using this camera for day to day outings , it is light easy to handle really good lens on it, I use my Canon for really sharp shots and portraits .
I don't know if anyone else has either of these cameras I would appreciate your feed back and what you think their merits are. Alan
Although I do not have the exact same cameras as you I do have a Canon 7D and a Panasonic FZ200. And like you when I want to grab a camera for fun shooting it has been the Panasonic and I havent been disappointed with the image quality it produced. I recognize the limitations and qualities of each of my cameras and enjoy using both of them. :-)
That 24X optical zoom will get you close on distant objects. Great camera to play with. The 7D will certainly do the job for portraits!
I also have the Canon 60D with an asortment of lenses that I use for almost everything. But I have a Nikon P500 bridge cam that I keep in the car and sometimes use for mobile video stuff that crops up. My older Panasonic Lumix FZ-7 bridge I keep in the tour pac of my motorcycle. It's a great little cam and doesn't take up a lot of valuable space.
One thing the Panasonic is half the weight or more and half the cost, plus you can use the Canon lens. I have a Canon Mark II which I really like, but the salesman at the camera shop was showing me the Panasonic and I was impressed. Bee
The lumix fz-48 is an amazing bridge camera,i also have a p&s lumix dmc tz5 a few years old now but has .and still is serving well .Allan
The highest merits of everything you mention is CONVENIENCE and not ultimate IQ.
What you mention is convienient, lower priced and you like it -and that is a great thing ! Just realize, speaking of strictly IQ, these are all at or near the bottom of the ladder in the bigger scheme of things.
I've had a 60D since they came out. I've been using a 24-105L which is very good. One problem, the lens manually extends when carried. I found a big rubber band at B & H which goes on the zoom ring and that helps. I'd like to hear more about the FZ, I currently have a G12, great camera, but short zoom.
