What will be the best lens to use? I have a canon mark 11 5D.
What lenses do you have? I would not want to use shorter than 100mm with a full frame body.
Are you looking for a telephoto or a prime lens?
There is no best lens for portraits.
If you want a recommendation for a good general purpose portrait lens I would choose the Canon 70-200 F2.8L. Its a couple of grand. The kit lens for the mkII the 24-105L is a nice portrait lens.
As far as focal lengths. it generally not desirable to shoot below 50mm or so unless you know what your doing. Some of the finest portrait photographers in the world shoot half or full body shots at 24mm. Lower focal length lenses can cause problems with bloating the image. Most photographers prefer longer focal lengths for image/subject compression.
What portraits you shoot and where you go photographically will determine what lenses you use.
Thanks,
I just purchase a 24-70mm 2.8 L 11 Lens..

Before you spend big $$$ on L glass take a look at the Tamron 24-70, 2.8. It's not cheap but look up a comparison between the Tamron, Canon L, and the Nikon. You'll be surprised at the results between these 3 manufacturers and photographic results attained---best bang for the buck. Just ran a check on B&H prices of the 3 lens---Canon L f4=$1500, Nikon f2.8=$1900, Tamron 2.8=$1300. Independent reviews have shown that the Tamron surpassed the 2 major manufacturers in a number of different areas plus the L glass is only a f4 aperture. Bite my tongue I did find the Canon L 24-70, 2.8 for merely $2300----like I said best bang for the buck........

I suggest the mighty 70-200mm f/2.8
Full frame. 135 or 120 for portraits

I would worry about lighting than anything else. Unless you are a paparazzi photographer.

You have to work closer with a 85mm on a full frame. With a crop 85 would be equivalent to 136mm. So what was your point?
