I have been in my spare time building a wide angle 4x5 camera out of an old camera back and a new 65mm/5.6 Super Angulon lens. Taking my time on it as usual.

Lo and behold yesterday I came across this being marketed by Sinar. And they named it after me too IAN Tec. Haha. I would give everything to have one of these, cannot find a price for it however! What a beast!

Well I gotta have one, it's the most impressive camera I have seen for a long time. I want to start doing 5x4 landscapes here in Florida, red filter and pola screen stuff in an effort to try emulate my single biggest photographic hero, Clyde Butcher. If you ever see his 6 feet v 50 inch monochrome prints you will never want to go back to digital, (until you try carrying my Sinar and 20 darkslides around. The Ian Tec would be my life saviour.

Thanks and a Happy Christmas to you as well. I in fact never liked Christmas, I was in an orphanage as a kid, and Christmas was something other people had. Now I have 7 kids living (2 in heaven) and a lost spouse so not being with family usually means I hibernate in bed for the day or read.
Crazy I know but at my age it's not going away!

good hunting!

Pricing will be around €2,600 for the camera and a tripod adapter, before VAT and shipping prices.

As luck would have it, they also make a line of lenses. From a quick reading, it seems that the camera has neither a viewfinder nor an LCD.

"As for composing the image, your Apple iPhone or iPod Touch can be connected to the lanTec via a special Sinar rotating adapter. This serves as a viewfinder which can quickly be set for either portrait or landscape orientation and which provides a brilliant image for composing and also for leveling the camera."

Naturally it would be nice to "pony" up the funds for such a camera. It is beautiful.

However, I am more inclined, due to the level of my retirement income, toward a similar style of camera for less money.

Dayi (China) makes such a camera among others. Gaoersi also makes similar styles... slightly up the price scale.

Remember most of these cameras are priced lenses extra. Provide your own.

Here is a link to a site that has images of Dayi,Gaoersi, Shen Hao, and others, both in the style you posted and many others. I've had Shen Hao and been very pleased. I've heard good things about build quality on Gaoersi...

Shop away, or hold on for the one with your name on the front!

Here's how to get one almost as good. The Graflex XL-W (as in 'WIDE') is not 4x5, but uses roll film up to 2 1/4x3 1/4. I recognize that's not 4x5, but films are so good now that the difference even in a 16x print is academic. I just sold one with a 47mm Super Angulon for $750, and the very nice fellow that bought mine is very happy with it. I also have a regular XL body with a 58mm Rodenstock Grandagon (an excellent lens which when stopped down covers 4x5); the advantage of this combination is that the camera has a coupled rangefinder, which the W does not because DOF with the 47 is so great that focusing by scale is accurate enough.

I'm just throwing out these ideas because they might get you into medium format film photography in an affordable way.

Thanks for the ideas, I have a Sinar F with a 65mm/F5.6 Super Angulon lens and am looking for a cheap sunk lens panel for it. Sinar panels need a mortgage application to get one . There are several on E bay, Chinese ones so may have to settle for one of those. Got a wide angle bellows from KBH recently , almost new if not new for an unbelivable price of $31 . Beat up ones are going on Ebay for in excess of $90 and are snapped up! I have the back and screen of a wooden 4x5 and if I sandwich the wa bellows to a solid front panel I should be good to go. I too looked at the Gaoersi camera and it looks very tempting. I am very lucky to own a DeVere 504 color enlarger with the analyser and all the kit so am ok in that area, not going to do color though so can use the color head for multigrade papers (which I am not keen on but.....)
