I check around the house from time to time and notice I have a several baby jumpers running around. The parents/mother has been missing from my front window for some time. These are of the same species, which I have yet to have named. Some sort of Flag jumper. Anyway I've been keeping the front porch light on for about 3 hrs a night attracting bugs. Happy to report a Female Phidippus otiosus has moved in above and under the porch light fixture. Last night I watched her watching all the little insects buzzing around. It was funny as there were so many bugs bouncing off her head and she would spin around only to late to capture them. If you had told me that someday I would get enjoyment out of watching a spider try to capture prey, I would have never believed it.. Now if I could just get the kids to enjoy. The only downside being i have captured photos of this species already.

Thanks Tom
The flash diffuser is really helping with the eyes, letting some of the eye color come thru, but still a little harsh. I need to get off my butt and build one a little wider, longer and tapered more at the end. Like to try some of that fabric used for soft boxes. This Macro stuff is Fun

I don't think you can have too many pictures of them. This one is very nice. I wish it was warm enough for them to be around here now. Maybe one is hiding out someplace in the house.

Thanks Country'sMama
would be nice if you could find one in the house. Cruising the web I found a guy in Gainesville florida that sells them. Guess a good handful of folks keep and breed them also. I've found a few down near the lake that hang in the same area, but they can really hide when they want, then you don't know if they've move on or not. I still haven't brought myself to capture one yet. Maybe when I get around to using reverse and lens stacking them I'll capture a few. Wonder if any Local Pet stores up your way keep them. You have a great setup for photographing them

Jumpers do not make webs.

I can't believe I am having this conversation. Who would have thought a year ago that I would have fallen in love with jumping spiders. I found a little tiny spider the other day. She escaped while I was photographing her, so I may have a bunch of what ever she was in the house.
I hope yours sticks around a long time so we can continue to enjoy your photography of her.

I have a small Daddy Long Leg living in my master bathroom.

Hey Erv
The females make little silken cocoon homes, not the typical spider web you see. I've seen the males use a leaf to curl up and use as cover. They actually hunt their prey, stalking and then Jumping to attack. Hence, Jumping Spiders

If they have the two Larger eyes surrounded by smaller ones leading around the head then you found a jumper. Google Michigan Jumping Spider and you might find what you have hanging around the house.
I'm hoping mine continues to hang out and grow, see can get about twice as large as she is now

I have one too in my bedroom. I call it Jack Web.
If I disturb it, it spins in circles for about a minute. I wonder what keeps it from getting tangled in its own web?
The ones I observed only last a couple of weeks and then disappear. Wish I knew more about them.
