A late beginner

I just bought a Canon SX150 which is billed as a "high-end, advanced" digital camera. As a 76 year-old man, I think an SLR would be too advanced for me.
I am both impressed and intimidated by the quality of the photographs I see posted here.
There is a lot to see here in San Antonio. I hope to post some photos of the Riverwalk and other sites soon.
