Your Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48 contains a 1/2.33" CCD image sensor, which is considerably smaller than an APS-C sensor of a standard DSLR. (See chart below). http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/FX48/FX48A.HTM

This means that a "true macro" with such a small sensor, captures a very small area of subject: approximately 6-mm x 4.3-mm vs 24-mm x 16-mm. This like comparing your pinky fingernail to both thumbnails in size. Therefore, a true macro with a P&S sensor will not exceed 6-mm in length of subject, for a 1:1 magnification (life-size) capture.

Your images are nice close-ups, and appear to be macros when compared to similar images captured with an APS-C sensor,
but are not 1:1 mag (life-size) captures.

They can be cropped to 1:1 mag, but pixelation starts to become apparent.

Who's a muppet (me), it's an FZ48 NOT an FX48. http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/LUMIX+Digital+Cameras/Superzoom+Cameras/DMC-FZ48/Specification/7902665/index.html?trackInfo=true with a 1/2.33-type CCD sensor. Tho' that's the same size sensor so no different.

Thanks tho for spelling it out for me Nikonian72 regards Macro. There's a lot of the information on UHH regards quality cameras like Nikon as to what thay can do. I wish I knew what I know now 'cause I don't think I would have bought the FZ48.

Thanks again m8.
