Nikon COOLPIX P510

I bought a Nikon COOLPIX P510 online. I took several photos using the default setting (AF). After I loaded those to my computer, I found out those photos are even worse than those (the same scenes for comparison) I took use by my old Panasonic DMC-FZ20 which I bought more than 7 years ago. The color and sharpness are worse. I attached two photos.

Is there any settings I need adjust or Nikon COOLPIX P510 is not that good?

Please give me some suggestions, comments. Thank you.

First I will say its quite obvious that your settings are different between the two cameras. Different cameras use very different settings when converting the RAW image to a JPG, as these shots show. The panasonic is zoomed in at about double the focal length of the Nikon also, this will make a HUGE difference in the metering when doing a comparison shot.

Tra,
As you muddle through this conundrum don't forget the famous quote from Ansel Adams. "The most important part of a camera is the 12 inches behind it."

I'm with MT on this one. Maybe it is something to do with shooting the pic in auto rather than in S, A, or M modes?

A friend of mine LOVES her P510. Shoots mostly in automatic and gets crisp close-ups of birds. Try varied scenes and focal lengths and light and such before giving up.

Thank you, everyone.

MT is right, I took another 4 pics (attached below) for comparison, all are on the P mode. All the files size are around 700KB. Any comments?

I think I'm going to keep p510. Thanks again.

Um if your files are only 700KB are you shooting in the small file size category or something? I shoot in the fine file size category with my 500 and I don't think I have gotten less than a 1MB picture. That could also be a reason that the pics look different. I would recommend setting your 510 to fine.

The comparison look very equal in focus and exposure now. I like the Nikon color richness in the first set better. I might have set the EV at -0.3 on the Nikon in the second set, it looks just a little bit overexposed.

Tea8, I set P510 to NORM so I can get almost the same size of the jpg files to compare. I'll set to FINE when I take photos later. Thanks.

MT, thanks for your professional comment.
