While walking around a neighborhood the other weekend I noticed this and asked, "Why must some people do this?" It may seem cute and look good but it can really upset the fire department. In some places it may even be illegal.

As long as it doesn't interfere with the operation and can be easily ripped off, my old town in NH encouraged folks to decorate fire hydrants for the different holidays to include painting them.

Maybe you should talk to your local Fire Department and ask for their opinion. They might think it cute and that you are some kind of nut from a mental ward. Then again they might agree with you but don't expect to make to many friends. Merry Christmas.
