Your cropping striped-off the Exif info, so I cannot see your data. What ISO, shutter duration, and aperture?

Sorry about the missing exif info. ISO 200, hand-held 1/60-sec at f/22.

What camera? What lens? Off-camera speedlight?
Two suggestions:
1.) Increase ISO to 400. This will allow you to
2.) Decrease shutter duration to 1/100-sec or even 1/200-sec, without changing aperture.
Shorter duration = less lens movement or less subject movement.

I set my speedlight to manual. I can then adjust speedlight output to capture proper exposure, without having to change camera settings, which is usually 1/200-sec at f/22. At macro distances, my SB-600 speedlight is usually at 1/2 or 1/4 output, depending on color of subject. Rarely do dark subjects require 1/1 full output.

Hello Treslek :-) Like all things Macro is a learning process, keep on experimenting, listen to the good advice given on this site.(esp Nik72) I'm on the same trip as you and love it. I am taking shots, noting on the exif, what settings I've used for the results I like most etc. You sound very determined...you'll crack it.

Thank you for that. I've worked out that if I keep snapping away, take my time etc., l get there in the end. The problem here in the UK, is we are currently freezing, rain, etc., so it is hard finding some bugs to get to pose. Now we're being told we got the beast from the east heading our way (snow and freezing winds from Russia) .

Not sure why but I like this one.

I trust you didn't do any house wrecking in your pursuit of this little creature. ;)

Very nice shots. :)
