Good God we need a breath of winter! Cold temps, snow, any moisture...otherwise our wildfire season will start in January.

Where are you from, SWFeral? Lake Erie seems to be down a couple of feet compared to just a few years ago. That's a lot of water! The Falls still seems to be flowing fine though

Ours has not ended. Had a fire to the north just this past weekend. But its still nice to see flowers in bloom, no matter what time of year.

Like you I'm in hiding, but let's just say that for now I'm in the southwest corner of New Mexico, home of the worst wildfire in our state's history. We are parched, and overly warm. I've been out photographing the burn scar and it is vast, hideous, heartbreaking. Friends have asked why I'm drawn to the devastation and I didn't know how to answer: I just knew I had to go out to the graveyard of my favorite area.
After my last visit, I had the answer. Most of the wilderness I'd planned to explore is now gone, or inaccessible. I simply needed to say goodbye.
My Paradise, once a lush and verdant forest, cool and shady, now resembles a nuclear wasteland. And not just a few acres: there are charred sticks of trees jutting from ash for as far as you can see. Granted, some areas were spared. But no one can reach them. Maybe that's just as well.
Okay, thanks for your interest, and for letting me vent...I wish I could put up some photos but I seem to have a demon that prevents me from doing this.
I realize that in the Big Picture our 300,000 acre wildfire is nothing. No people died. Only habitat, animals, and hearts.

I'm glad I don't live in an area with "a wildfire season." That reminds me of an article I read about some part of the world where "the fighting season" was only a few weeks away.

I'm grateful that I don't live in an area where we might get flooded. I'm fussing about my wildfire but in truth, my home is safe. I guess I'm lucky to just lose my playground...

Forest fires are a part of the cycle of life! Soon there will be rain and new life to bring color back to the forest! Just keep your camera busy through the rebirth! It will be wonderful again!

Aurel, thanks for the affirmations and your general optimism; also the nice pics. Are they from around here? Sure looks like it. I know that this recent burn will look that way in a few years, and that it is all part of the cycle. I'm just in a funk over it. I'll miss the big shaggy fir trees. But thanks again for reminding me to be grateful for life, period.

The pics were taken not far from Pinetop! We love the south west! Its sad to see a forest burn especially when homes are lost!
