Pictures Everywhere

I thought it would be interesting and hopefully informative to ask this group the following question: Being a non-professional, strictly an amateur, I was wondering what do people do with all the good digital photos they take. Storing them on a computer forever seems a waste, you only have just so much wall space to put them on, or printing them in a photo book which can get very expensive for a large number of photos. So what do you other amateurs and other lovers of photography do with all your great photos???
Before I moved the last time, I had accumulated almost 500 4x6 prints (13 cents each at Costco) in a shoebox. Threw away at least half. Does that help?:)

I guess that half of them were great photos. But the question is still what do you do with the half that are great?
:-D

Nice of you to suggest I might have that many "great" shots! You could get another external hard drive for just photo storage, or copy them onto USB drives, or upload to websites where you can (but don't have to) order prints.
I wish you hadn't asked that question.
They're still sitting there on the computer. I wonder if, in 100 million years, someone will have figured out how to get files from a petrified hard drive.
I have no problem printing and framing all of my great photos - both of them are hanging right here!

I store all my photos on sd / cf cards they were taken on, cards are so cheap now that i find that is my best way, you will of course have to cross reference them with a notebook or something similar, all photos i take are sent directly to an external hard drive, but are permanently stored on the original memory card
Occasionally I find one or two that really stand up by themselves and these I get printed on canvas and framed. The problem is that doing so darkens them a little bit; it's the nature of the medium I suppose. A lot are on the computer and everything is backed up on a seperate hard drive as well as still on the original chips which are protected. Most of the photos I have in print are equally either mine or my photo mates' best ones.
Help I'm running out of house space.
Remember there are two kinds of photographs, Taken and Found. Everything else is a snapshot and should be treated as such. The taken and found should be shown, join a photo club participate in internal contests, maybe you're the next Yousef Karsh or Ansel Adams.
Share them!
The easiest way is through the internet.
You can use Picasa Web, Pinterest, Tumblr, or many others.
You can build your own website (I've done that) or for a nominal fee use a website service that caters to photographers (I use Zenfolio).
You can share them through Facebook with your family and friends.
The very best ones you should consider printing on canvas, or metal, or paper, frame them and hang them on your wall!
You're right, they shouldn't just sit on a hard drive.
Dropbox also has a similar app and free storage that I use.

I have millions of pics, well lots of them anyway. I started in 2000 with digital and saved them on CDs. I have since learned that CDs do not last forever so have just finished copying them all on to an external hard drive (all 60 CDs) Now that I have started photoshop elements I have tons more pics and it is very time consuming finding a place for them, keeping track, and saving.
I also share a lot on Face book. It is fun to sometimes get comments. Also post them on the Photoshop elements forum and get constructive comments. It is really funny to see some of the pics I saved in the old yrs. What was I thinking!!!!!!!????
I am lazy about framing, I have good intentions but hardly do it!!!!
