I still have my Tanberg reel-to-reel vertical deck but seem to have lost or gave away all the tapes I once had.... :(

when it comes to pictures or sound the technical specs mean doo doo to us old farts,it's what we hear and see.
lps and 71/2 ips tapes ruled.

Same here. I still record through tube based gear because I subjectively prefer the sound.

My only issue was the spread of misinformation (that in subtle ways hurts my industry).

Good Grief! Hate to say this, but Digital ain't never gonna be like the ole photos!

We will miss chemical photos and I worry about these new inc prints that will fade, rather than the silver ones that have lasted for 100+ years.

Heck, we are due for a magnetic shift and what that does to our media is still to be determined.

I love old prints, developed in the old ways.

Oh well, Gary

Virgil,
I feel youir pain, I loved asa 25 kodak slide film.
I have made 16X20 prints from a shot my mother took a shine to (1979, still hangs on the wall) tripod shot thru a minolta SRT manual camera.
Miss the 4X5 film too.

Yeah, miss the old, "Match Needle" and Program or Manual 35mm cameras that I still have in my closet!!! Darn good pic takers, with the heavy zooms that one could get. The old 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 lenses that came with them were awesome as well.

Oh well, once the predicted Magnetic Pulse comes through, either by the Sun or Atomic weapons, and when the Earth's magnetic field is due to reverse, all the current digital media will be erased or crapped. Keep to real film, if you can.

Also, keep your records by old pencil and paper. Heck, all digital will be useless.

God Bless you all and of course, Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Gary

I could go into a long technical discussion on how neither the Earth's magnetic field nor the sun could erase digital media, but that would bring us even further off topic. I will say this: I wish we could return to the good old days when the sun was fun and not a cancer causing, Doomsday generating, satellite killing monster, and we had ASA 25 to deal with it better. Heck, my Kodak Z990 only goes down to ISO 125!!!

I don't. The operating one I gave away had no more tapes to play. Most tapes became brittle and broke, and the survivors lost their magnetic quality. Good riddance.

I guess we'd better hold on to things that aren't magnetically influenced, like phonographs and CD's.

Also, keep your records by old pencil and paper. Heck, all digital will be useless.
