I would like to take some photos of a home, outside at night with all of the lights inside turned on, drapes open and hopefully get the Thomas Kinkade look of illumination from the windows. Any suggestions? Those that are not familiar with Kinkades works all of his paintings had the look of illumination coming from the windows

Ioptfm, don't think it would be that hard. They look like all the overdone HDRs that we see today. He was just ahead of his time!!

Thanks...was hoping to get major effect from camera settings with only a little PS editing.

Then it probably won't be so easy.

I couldn't find the link I wanted, though I believe it was on the Strobist blog site http://strobist.blogspot.com

There was a photographer who put his camera on a tripod and went to each visible room and set up a small speedlight and a radio link. He returned to the camera and shot it, went back and moved the light to the next room and shot it, then puts them together in Photoshop.

Here is how I do it. Wait till the last hour of daylight and take bracketed shots of the house with the lights turned on and the yard light if possible. Combine all the shots in HDR editing software. If you study Real Estate photography tecnieques you will find alot of exsamples.

Try this: Choose the house to be photographed, With the camera on a tripod, set camera on Multiple Exposure, In the evening hours just before dark, while it is still light enough to photograph the house accurately, take the first photo in low, but normal light. Wait until dark and all the windows are well-lighted, expose for the lights. You may have to play around with the settings and time of day to get the photo you want. You probably could do the same thing with multiple exposures in photoshop using layers and masks.
