Next step for Wide angle lenses

I've been using a 10-22mm Canon wide angle lense for a while now but wonder if I should be considering a different lense. I usually shoot landscape views and occasionally people. Any suggestions on what I might consider purchasing next?

What camera and other lenses do you have?

Perhaps look into a prime lens...maybe a 20....24...see what you can do with that.

Your current wide angle provides a good field for landscapes. You may want to consider a nifty-fifty or 85mm for "people".

IMHO there are no really good super wides for crop frame DSLR out there . Why ? because the lens flange to sensor distance is set up for full frame on all DSLR's that I know of . This distance is too great to effectively produce a less than 15mm lens. There are some alternatives - but very expensive - like the Zeiss 15mm 2.8 ($2800 ) or the Canon 17mm TSE - about the same price. If you are serious about wide landscapes, I suggest Sony NEX . For non sweep panorams I use the Voigtlander 15mm Heliar and for sweep panorams I use a 24mm Vivitar all manual lens - both these are astoundingly good with the NEX !

Lenses have different perspectives, you can shoot landscape at various focal lengths. If I were a landscape photographer I would use prime lenses only at the focal lengths covering the perspective I was primarlily interested in. A medium telephoto zoom would do, depending how serious you are about image quality etc. I have a Sigma 10-22 which does me fine..If I was serious well that is a fifferent matter.

I own the Rokinon 8mm fisheye made for crop sensors. The Canon version (1.6x) is about 170 degrees, the rest are 180 degrees. It is under $300, but is fully manual. It is soft wide open, but from f/5.6 to f/11 is great. I usually set it to f/8, and set the focus to just under 10ft. Everything from 10 ft on is in focus. You can correct the distortion if you'd like, but I like it, it's part of the reason I bought a fisheye. I bought it as a "toy", but am actually making money from it. It's paid for itself many times over. Here is an example, people love this shot.
