Now that is awesome. I am going to go up in one this summer. It will be my first time in a plane without a motor.:) But I get to do it for my birthday.:):)

My Dad had a few small planes and he would take me up when I was small. Loved every minute of it. We have a small airport jus west of us. Just a grass field. But they do gliders all the time. I spend so much time out there just watching and have gotten to know the guys pretty good. So I told them I would like to go up in one. They told me I could next summer for a birthday present from them. I take a lot of pictures while I watch and always give them prints of their planes and gliders.:)
Small operations like that are what keep General Aviation alive, I love landing on grass strips!!

A few years back my then, girlfriend, bought me an hour flying in one for my birthday. I have a private pilots license and told the pilot taking me up. He let me fly the glider as he explained the methods to keep her airborne....It was a GREAT experience, and I'm sure you will enjoy it. He let me start flying it while it was still being towed to altitude and let me fly until just before touch down...He told me that the tow pilot will know when he released the controls to me and will be cussing him, then laughed.
The thing that surprised me in gliding was the turmoil when climbing in thermals. After an hour I was ready to find the landing field.

Well from what I have heard them talking about is how peaceful it is. No noise and you feel like you are floating. I can wait till the weather warms up.:):)
