I have a canon eos rebel xs! I have the Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS lens that came with it and Canon ef 50mm /1.8 II! I like the Canon ef 50mm /1.8 II but it does not zoom. I like taking photos of my kids and family. I love outdoor photos. And bokeh. Any recommendations on the best camera to upgrade to?
I love my camera but Im ready for an upgrade!!!

What are your thoughts on where you want to go as in...
Full frame or Crop. I love my Canon 5D MarkII and use it for just what you want..kids and family. Check out this link all photos are taken using this camera and the Canon 24-105 lens.

I am guessing I should go with crop because the full frames are much more expensive right?

An upgrade, but not a complete genetic recalibration, right?
The Canon 7D would be a major upgrade; and based on what you described possibly overkill with a learning curve.

The Canon EOS Rebel 4Ti would be the first DSLR I'd look at. Better, faster, full of features, yet easy to use with similar menus and vocabulary to the camera you have now. Also the Rebel 4Ti is a great value for the money.

Whatever you get, you can keep you current camera as a backup or sell it on ebay. That's my routine: have two ready to go, and then sell what I don't need on ebay. It's gone in a week!

Well that depends...how much were you wanting to spend.
I thought the same thing when I upgraded from my XSI to the 50D and then I upgraded to the 5D MarkII. In retrospect I wish I would have just skipped the 50D and went straight for the MarkII. I then could have used the money for a lens. It all worked out anyways...sold the XSI and now use the 50D as a backup camera.

I recommend the Canon EOS Rebel 3t ; 3ti, 4ti. So easy to learn and also almost same format as the XS I have both XS & 3Ti love em. You can always buy great glass for the 3Ti that will do the work for you on shooting. I bought my 3Ti @Amazon.com and got a good deal body only. I think it has gone down even more. Happy hunting.
