Nikon D40

Hello All.
I have been given a Nikon D40 AF-S DX. It is probably about 5 years old. I have the standard lens 18-55 but perhaps Santa could bring me a much larger one, at least 300mm?
Does anyone use this camera and have suggestions or know where I can get a lens.
Thanks,
Wendy,
Cocoa, Florida

Look online, E-Bay, Adorama, ect. I just got a 55-200 mm for my D3100.

I use a 70-300 on my Nikon D50 as a walk around lens and have for many years. It came from a local camera store in Orlando. I also use a 1.4 telextender on this lens from the same store and both work great. I use it every day.

Thanks so much. Do you remember where in Orlando as I am not that far away on the east coast.

I still have my old D40 in the closet. I used a Nikon 18-200mm on it for awhile. It did a great job and didn't add that much weight. As you know, the D40 has a small footprint and the bigger the lens you put on it will make it a bit out of balanced in my opinion.

I love my D40 but hoping dear old Santa will bring me a 3200 this year for Christmas. I told him I had been a good girl, now the waiting game is on to see if he agrees that I have been good.

Well, maybe if he agrees that you've been REALLY good, he'll bring you a D7000! (Prices have dropped so low on them, even Santa can afford a sleigh-full of them). Merry Christmas!

I love my d40 and use it all the time. Any nikon lens with a built in motor should work fine. you could also look at off-brand lenses. I use my Tamrons on my Nikons and wouldn't change them for anything! I bought both my Tamrons on Ebay from US sellers.
