Nikon back button focus gotcha.
I took a shot and went to preview it in the LCD, wasn't what I wanted. Reframed the shot and pressed the AF-L/AL-L button, nothing happened because I forgot to turn off the preview. Turned off the preview, refocused and took the shot.
When I went to delete the shot I didn't want I got the message that the image was locked and couldn't be deleted.
Turns out that if you press the AF-L/AL-L button and you are viewing an image, the camera locks it and the only way to delete it in camera is to re format.
Minor issue but a heads up.

Just wondering... I don't shoot Nikon, but on my camera I can lock images that I do not want to accidentally delete. I can also unlock them again in-camera.
Does your camera not have a similar feature?

I have done this before also, locked a picture by accident. What I do is just go to the picture that is locked (in camera) and press the locked button again....this unlocks your photo for deleting. I have the Nikkon D7000 by the way. Thanks

The purpose of that feature is so you don't inadvertently delete an image you want to be sure to keep. I read about it in the manual.
As noted above you can unlock it with the same button and then delete it.
I didn't try pressing the button again to see if it would delete. Just read what the manual said. Have to try it, thanks.
I thought the optic of this post was about back button focus? Still it's an interesting thread and I'm glad you got ethe answer you were looking for.
? Just a different POV
I use an 4 GB card. Take 300 pics at a clip. sort them out in iPhoto. Why go through all that back and forth. I always thought that that is the beauty of a card over film, you are not cubbyholed with 36 photos on a roll of film, you can take as many as ya want. Just a thought.
