Should I erase the stray grass strands?

No, leave them in.
Great job on the edit (#2) for bringing out the contrast!

I would choose bottom photo of top set. Remove grass is editors choice but it serves as the focal point for this photo. The light in the third phot is overdone for my personal taste which is subjective to... But if added gradually just on the grass & the rocks that are close to the grass would be more realistic & less oversaturated in my opinion.

I meant the strays on either side of the image focus.

The first edit is fine, leave the grass - all of it. IMHO --

The second edit looks overcooked to me.

(I was referring to image #2, not the second edit.)

That one was for fun. As to overcooked... Certainly is and meant to be.

First, it's a beautiful shot! I would definitely leave in the strands that's the focal point. I like the second better. It maintains the subtle, almost gentle feel of a strand trying to stand out. While I get the point of the last, it feels too much. Maybe if there was a way to isolate the strand to pop, it would have worked. Again, I liked it and good catch, most people would have never seen this!

Number 3 is interesting but I prefer #2. And yes, leave the grass in. It adds an item of interest, making it a unique image.
