A Cormorant Along The Snake River

The Snake River has begun its annual runoff with the resulting high water, tons of debris carried down river and so on. I went to the actual Falls of Idaho Falls yesterday afternoon to see what photographs I might take of the runoff.
From the bridge crossing the river on Broadway Street in the downtown area I spotted this Cormorant swimming along the river before it went over the falls. I got a decent photograph from a long distance with my Sony RX10IV using 600mm. I took some other photos far off up the river of the Mormon Temple and then took a look back at the Cormorant. It was standing on top of some log debris with its out stretched wings doing the Bald Eagle routine of being our National Bird. Then came numerous photos of this Cormorant doing the Bald Eagle routine. I hope you like these.

I do like them Dennis. If I ever have to give up my Big Nikons, that Sony RX10IV just might be the one!

Thank you very much Karin. They are interesting and somewhat unattractive birds but great to photograph. I have photographed a few but none so animated as this one was.

Thanks Chief for your positive comment. I have had a number of Nikons up to the D800 but gave it up in order go purchase the Sony. I have never looked back though I still have a D7000 and lenses for it plus two film Nikons, an F2 Photomic in close to new condition and an F3 HP with numerous lenses for them too. A professional photographer friend suggested the Sony saying he loved his and it would do about 99% of what my Nikons would do. So far it does just that and all in one camera. It is 24-600mm and with a touch of a button on the lens it will go to 800 and 1200. It is a great travel camera too.

Great shots! I always thought Comorants only hung around salt water.

Thank you nimbushopper for a great comment. I don't know if I ever had that thought but I can admit I have only ever seen them around salt water until I saw this one.
