I wanted to order from the local Chinese restaurant last night, but I didn't have a menu. Looking online didn't help. One site, Easy-Shop, offers a picture of the menu for $24. Really?

I hate calling the restaurant because of the language problem. I told the young lady what I wanted, and she asked me a question. I had no idea what she said, so I hesitated. Then I replied, "Yes." Unfortunately, that wasn't good enough. She was asking an either/or question, so I had to try again. It was one of those situations where I wasn't sure what food I would be getting when I arrived to pick it up. I think it turned out okay. Whatever it was, it was delicious.

I think it would be a good idea for ethnic stores to hire a native speaker to deal with customers. Even when I picked up the order and paid, I had no idea what she was saying. Whatever she was saying, my replies didn't cause a problem. 😊

Seems reasonable that if you are providing a service to people, that they should be able to understand you!

The local Chinese restaurant is very good but it does not matter if you order one pork fried rice or thirty, the response is the same- 10 mint-bye.

Yeah Jerry but I think it's actually a better that way than you have a Chinese restaurant with Vietnamese owner and the Mexican chef. They hire an American to deal with you though.

lol..try to explain that you're wife has severe allergy to shellfish and may die from even very small contamination.! We cannot go to most Chinese restaurants because of the language barrier. If there is no reliable communication or we feel the least bit doubtful we get up and leave. We have one reliable Thai restaurant in our town been going there nigh on 30 years. But you still have to be vigilant, a Mexican restaurant without warning dropped their policy of separate fryers for shrimp and their corn chips! Oops, an emergency trip to the hospital and had to use two Epipens!

White rice or fried rice?
My local Asian restaurant is not that far away. I just go there and order it and wait. It does not take that long and it is still hot when I get it home. Now I am hungry for Mu Shu Pork with fried rice.

Are you kidding me? I think I would have rocks in my head. That is ridiculous!

In that case, you must buy your food in person but before you enter the restaurant you must pay $5 (in quarters) to open the restaurant door.

That wasn't the restaurant charged for the menu. They just don't have a website and someone took a photo of their menu and try to sell for $24 a copy. The restaurant I guess they are low budget and doesn't have website, a small family owned one I think and that's the kind that is likely good.

Check this out: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0528403/

If it doesn't load, go to imdb.com and watch the Bob Newhart show about Bob ordering Chinese food while intoxicated.
