I thought this was funny - funny, but annoying

I received a lengthy email from Spectrum apologizing for the problems with their Cloud DVR. They stopped us from using the expensive DVRs and Tivos we bought, so we have to pay them $10/month for them to do the recording. Because their Cloud is so popular, they can't keep up with demand. They are working to improve the system, and they will not charge us for last month (which I already paid) and this month. I really doubt I am going to save $20, but I'll find out when I get my next bill.

Maybe I should offer them my several DVRs and two Tivos to help them out. Maybe not.

Not so funny: A Spectrum worker in Albany was electrocuted working in a bucket when he made contact with a high-tension wire. All their bucket trucks are grounded now.

You get electrocuted for sure if your truck is grounded and you touch a high voltage wire. You see the birds can perch on them high voltage wires because they are not grounded any where.

Congrats BebuLamar, you got it right. Short circuit from Hi/voltage Wire THROUGH person to Bucket Ground! If Grounded Bucket itself touched Hi/Voltage Wire, expect a BIG Pop somewhere!

Since the bucket is fiberglass it cannot complete the circuit to ground.

Spectrum is looking to buy Altice which owns my cable provider (Optimum/Cablevision) and their cloud DVR already sucks...

It most certainly does!

We need a cable box with a hard drive in it, like the now defunct Scientific Atlanta box had.

Only thing worse is their customer service...call with a technical issue and they try to push their Fiber service

Do they have Fiber service? I hope they do. I have their cable internet and right now it's out. I am posting this using my phone as wifi hot spot. However, their customer service is much better than Frontier which is about my only other choice. Frontier fiber is good but really their customer service is very very bad.

I haven't investigated it personally but they sure have been pushing it. Now also, the neighborhood is infested with XFINITY crews stringing their stuff

I'm surprised that DVR makers haven't launched a class action suit against Spectrum for blocking them from being used.

Not Spectrum but the content providers did the blocking. The prevent Spectrum or any cable services to output video signal that can be recorded. You can connect the HDMI to a TV to watch but if the box senses that whatever you connected to it can record it would stop working. Back in the analog days they tried to do it with all kind of stuff like Macrovision etc.. but all of them cause lost in quality of the images.

k

As an electrician working in a bucket truck on live voltage we made sure our buckets were UN-grounded! Before every usage we had a specific testing procedure…go to lunch, new test before resuming work.

Check your network settings
I can "see" my Spectrum DVR.
.tts, or .ts, files can be copied and viewed. Edited and converted, too.
The others can't.
