And what I mean is a digital camera like the old "film" ones that ONLY has f stop, speed, and footage to set ? And of course a setting for the ISO...

There you go Donent. I think you should get two, one for each of your lens that you need for it. :D :D

Probably because they wouldn't sell well...most consumers want a point and shoot that LOOKS impressive but does all the work for you. I don't use the program settings on my camera and never have...but I'm a tad abnormal!

Because they want to sell cameras to normal people.

"Therefore, if you want an M9, just get this LEICA M-E. (Warning: if you worry about the price, don't buy LEICA. LEICA is not a brand for people who worry about price; you get very little for your money compared to Nikon or Canon.)" - Ken Rockwell

Having both manual and some auto helps ween new photographers away from the auto mode - possibly this is why most of the new professional cameras are now including some auto capability.

There are times when having auto capability can make the difference between getting or missing a picture. I have had a few situations where there was hardly time to turn the camera on and point in the general direction.

I was brought up using a Pentax K1000 SLR Film camera.
On changing to Digital, it was good to be able to change the ISO without changing the film.

Hello Hedgehogs! I am new to the site, but not to photography. My first camera was a Kalimar SR200 if that gives You any idea of my age. I am looking for a point and shoot that has full shutter speed or aperture control. I hear talk here about the Nikon 510 and the Lumix DMC FZ200. I would appreciate any opinions from you experts as I have seen how kind and helpful you are. I also have a Mamiya RB67 pro S that I would like to sell. Two lenses and two backs. Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can suggest.

Try www.snapsort.com to find a camera with the specs you want. I don't know if you'll find a P&S with shutter control, though.

As for the Mamiya, I've sold lots of photo equipment on ebay. If getting the highest possible price is your goal, ebay might not be the best choice.

You should probably start a new thread for this question. You're looking for what we call a bridge camera. Basically a P&S type, but with a dial like a DSLR. I have yet to see one that will let you go for a smaller aperture than F8.

Thanks to all. I am not sure how to start a new thread yet, But it is a learning experience which is good. I am not an ebay person and am not looking to get what I paid for the Mamiya. I just thought I could use it to get me started in digital. I have a Nikon Cool Pix S3100 and love the camera, but need to get more control of the DOF. Thanks........

Look for "Create new topic" at the top and bottom of the listings of topics...

And welcome to the forums.

Hang on to them. You'd be lucky to see 10 cents for every dollar you paid. Ten years ago I was buying RB's from portrait pro's who were dumping their RB's and Hassies. The Hassies went to East Asia. Even at the firesale prices I paid, I'd be lucky to see a quarter of what I paid. I will say prices have come back up a little, as people have quit dumping the gear en masse

Hi Folks, This looks like an interesting topic for us all to take up with the camera manufacturers. Heck, why don't we have an inexpensive DSLR that does and only has what the old basic film camera Pentax had? Manual focus and match-needle exposure and full over-ride? It would take RAW and everything else, but purely manual. Never owned a K-1000, but sure wised I had. Now we need the same, interchangable lens camera with digital enhancements, but make it pretty much the same basic/learner's camera as before.

Just my opinion . . . Gary

P.S. Still got a Canon AE, and a Canon AE-1, and a Nikon N8008S, with all the lenses. Now got a digital Nikon P-510 and my portable Panasonic DMC-SZ7, that I carry with me on my belt loop all the time!

I used to think the same thing about cars. They should make a nice basic model with a low price. I came to realize that it wouldn't sell.
