A well behaved Golden Retriever!

While I was at the marina, I looked across and saw a dog paddling quickly in the water. Watching, I realized he was retrieving something. So, while I am still lousy at action shots, I decided to try to capture it. Note that I said tried!
I had never seen the process in person, and this dog was good! In talking to the owner, he said the ducks swimming directly in the area behind him were driving him crazy! Talk about discipline!

I have always been told to try and post only my best work, and for the most part, I do. At times like this, however, I just want to share an experience. I figure if I keep posting, you might see improvement eventually!

I posted one of the mallards in the area across from him. I imagine it would have been more satisfying to retrieve the real thing that probably annoyed him!

I struggled with listing this one as it is a dog, and a dog is a pet, but it's not my "pet," and then there is a mallard in it! So I surrendered and put it here!

Something different well presented, Barb. Sharp finishing shot.

Nice series. # one is pretty soft. But they show how serious a born retriever is at his job! I have owned retrievers for duck hunting. Sometimes they had to be restrained so they didn't attempt to put themselves in danger while going after a downed bird! Genes are powerful things!

Yup, that's the plan. I'm glad you liked it. Given my experience with action shots, I'm pleased I got anything, even with some soft focus. I think the duck was celebrating that it lived to see another day!

Oh, you will see a new squirrel sequence tomorrow! Will try to expand my repertoire this weekend!

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! Gee, there was only one soft focus! I agree, and I always appreciate your feedback! This was just as bad as BIF! Lots of baby steps!

I could see the determination and focus. Good training as those ducks weren't far from where they were.

Nice series Barb. I love to watch dogs retrieve, ducks, sticks, balls or whatever. I used to have a Labrador Retriever who had the retrieving instinct but was not trained for it as in retrieving field trial competitions. We had a local park with a pond that had Canada Geese on it. My dog dove in and went after the geese. The geese could swim faster than the dog and knew it. They swam ahead of him just out of reach and led him all over the pond. I tried to call him in but he just kept on going. When he finally gave up he was so tired he could barely walk back to my car. Guess everyone had a good time but me.

By the way, where did the duck come from. Retrieving breeds retrieve wild fowl that have been shot down but they don't normally kill them.
