New Insta360

I just got an email telling me about a new Insta360 that is being introduced. It's the X4. There is nothing in the lengthy description about needing a cell phone app to use the camera. I had to sell my X3 at a loss because I wasn't able to activate it, so I couldn't use it.

They say to email them with questions or comments. I just did that, and the email was returned - unable to deliver. I posted on their Facebook page, instead.

Well, if it has to be controlled by something, a cell phone certainly is more portable.
That may be the reason one uses a cell phone as a controller.
So with that in mind, yes, the cell phone needs to be up to date, just like a PC for apps on it.

Shouldn't be a real problem for most as most always want the latest and greatest anyway.

Yes, you can use a cell phone to work the phone, but that's not essential. The Insta360 needs the app to activate the camera. No app, no camera. Adding the cost of a new phone to the cost of a $500 camera, would probably make some people think twice. Will the phone that can use the X3 app be able to use the X4 app?

If the phone is recent, most likely.

Yea, the way technology changes....
But I'd go with BebuLamar's comment.

Reminds me of a George Carlin shtick:
"Here's a song that's really moving-
This morning it was number 15,
this afternoon it was number 3,
and now it's a golden oldie!"

I just found out that the Insta360 X3, and probably the new X4, require a cell phone with a 64-bit system.

The Samsung S23 is 64-bit. It costs $750. 🤣

Thanks. I'll look into that.

Confusing. That phone is listed as refurbished for $150 or less. On the Samsung site, it is listed as "Pre-Order." Samsung has a huge layout promoting the phone, but nowhere is 64-bit mentioned. If that is so essential, why don't they mention it? And why would I have to pre-order an old phone? It was available two years ago. Pre-order? If I pre-order one, will Samsung send their factory a message, "Hey, make a Galaxy S21 FE 5G for Jerry?"

I would buy one for $150, but will it be able to activate the camera? There seems to be no way of finding out. I tried contacting the Insta360 people using their email address, but it was "Undeliverable."
