Any ideas on how to start a small photo business. I'm not interested in anything big, I like to sell my photos sometimes on canvas, sometimes already framed, etc. I like doing photos in unique ways.... artsy crafty some might say. I'm not really into portrait shooting. Should I have a web-site? Thanks for any input.

I have owned 2 cleaning business over the years. It would take to much typing to explain it all here. I can tell you to open your business as a sub chapter S corperation. Go to your main county office in the city. There you can file for the sub chapter S and register the name of your company. They can also help you through the process. Look on the internet under government for the phone number to get Federal Tax ID#. This should keep you busy for a while, hope it helps.

Good luck.

And, yes, you should have a website. Build it yourself here:

besides getting your business license, insurance and other legal requirements in a row, you will need to set up a website at the least. Marketing yourself is a huge thing, you will need to figure out who your target market is and then market to them accordingly.

Don`t...
Or bundle up your savings and burn them in your back yard.
Unless your photos are National Geographic quality and you are locally famous. You are doomed to fail. But dreams die hard so if you have piles of money to throw at them go for it. If not just keep on having fun with your photography and see if you can sell some to the stock agencies.

Right on! Good idea then. I would get a web site www.com with your registered business name or personal name up first. I would then set up a small studio with back drops and lighting in your home. Then concentrate on your speciality and submit them to Stock Agencies. Purchase the "Photographers Market Place" and submit the jpegs to the sites in the book. Next get your best work professionally enlarged and printed and put on a show at your local art gallery. All this will cost you less than renting mall or store space monthly.
