Our last night on the Viking Sky. After two wonderful weeks on the Sky, we docked in Chioggia, about 10 miles from the main part of Venice in the Venetian Lagoon. Cruise ships had just been banned from docking in Venice due to the damage to the city from their wakes. We were the first cruise ship to dock in Chioggia; other cruise ships docked as far away as Trieste, about 90 minutes from the Venice airport. We docked a little later than planned, as we had to sit outside the lagoon for about an hour for the tide to rise enough for us to get to the dock.
It was about a 90 minute boat ride to Venice across the lagoon (which was included with Viking). Since we arrived around 1:00PM, and we still weren't feeling 100%, and we had booked a two day extension in Venice, we stayed on the ship the rest of the day and then disembarked the next morning for a bus and then boat ride to our hotel in the Venice Lagoon.

Thank you Mark. We didn't get to cruise up the Grand Canal in the ship, but we did in the vaporettos (water taxis). If the change has helped to save Venice, it's definitely worth it. I wish we had been able to wander around Chioggia, as it looked like an interesting place.
I love the colors and contrast of the photos, water, sky etc. great photos
A wet and wonderful set, Dennis.
