My sister and I are starting to plan our annual sister vacation. We are thinking about the Harrisburg Pa area. I am thinking both the East Broad Top and the Starsburg railroads and museum and shop tours. Is there any other "must see" things to do or places to go, sites to photograph? Is the Hershey museum a place we should see or skip?

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is right across the street from the Strasburg Railroad.

And, since you’ll be in Lancaster County for those, you might as well check out anything Amish.
Or, head on over to Jim Thorpe for their train ride. Then, head up to Scranton to visit Steamtown.

SteamTown (Scranton), The Pennsylvania Railroaders Museum (in Altoona), Horseshoe Curve, (Also Altoona), the Allegheny Portage Railroad (Gallitzin, Pa.)
For other than Railroad locations there is the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon (Wellsboro, Pa.) and Harrisburg isn’t far from Gettysburg, and Antietam.

While the Strausberg RR is nice and scenic, it's a fairly short ride. Don't forget to try the Shady Maple Buffet nearby. It's the largest buffet (smorgasbord) in the country. I make it a must to go there when in Lancaster County.

There is a model train exhibit just down the road from the Railroad Museum, I think it is called Choo Choo Barn, and there is a toy museum not too far away.

I would recommend a stop at the Hershey factory.

When I was a kid, 3/4 of a century ago, you could actually tour the factory. Now, they have a ride ala Epcot. Still interesting.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions. I also just got my Tourist Trains Guide book put out by Trains magazine in the mail. I also got my Visit Harrisburg guide in the mail. It is always nice to hear from the people that have been there. The train and trolly museums sound great and the buffet does too. It looks like we will be driving an hour or so from "home base." And we will go to the Hershey factory!
How about the Civil War museum that looks too too, and that tree preserve.
