I’ve been thinking (toying) with the idea of getting back into the Leica world….Looking at a used M-P type 240…
Would appreciate any thoughts or user owners
Thank you
Can you share with us why you are considering a return to Leica? Given the mirrorless offerings now it would be interesting to know your reasoning.
Honestly, just thinking.. I have been a LUMIX customer and previous an Olympus user… I’m not really tied into any specific brand…Have used mostly all… just a new bug for an old guy
I've been having the same thoughts; have a Leica V-LUX (a bridge camera) that produces wonderfully, but is really bulky. I once had a Leica C300 (which I sold) but cant find one anywhere in the used market.
I gave my V-Lux to my granddaughter and will give more, but then then there is I……need I say more
Now anyone with the M-P 240??? Comments

Why? I like-a-the Leica. I'm 75 and started photography at 14 with a IIIc and have never said good by. I do now use a Sony A7 body, but the optics are all Leica. The Sony is an excellent choice for Leica optics. What better test for the Sony body than the Leica Summarex 8.5cm f1.5 black paint, the one shown is the post WW II lens, mine is a German Military edition from 1932 (before the lens could be sold or allowed outside Nazi Germany except in the hands of German military hands).
After all, it is the optics that make the image, not the camera body.

Look at the Lumix S5 II (or S5 IIX if you want more video features). You can use Leica, Sigma, Panasonic, and other L-Mount lenses on it. The S5 II/IIX got phenomenal reviews on YouTube. It's the best of three worlds.
Leica makes cameras as art objects. Panasonic makes cameras that are easy to use and have remarkably useful features. Truth be known, Panny probably makes most of the guts of Leica's L-mount series. They collaborate a LOT on technology. (the L-Squared Alliance, they call it.) But glass is what makes the character of an image. With a Lumix, Sigma, or Leica body, you get plenty of lens options from all of them and several other sources. Sigma's L-Mount offerings are excellent. Leica's L-mount lenses are priced in the stratosphere, but create amazing images.
You say getting 'back to' Leica, which Leica did you own?
Leica's are exquisite cameras but M- Cameras require a certain mind set.
I have had a gorgeous Leica M3 SS Collapsable f/2 Sumi for 50 years (Just like the one HCB used to use)
I found that I was never any good with rangefinder focusing, took very few memorable pictures with it.
So if your experience with Leica was an M camera and you liked it, go for it.
Otherwise buy a Q2 or Q3, (or at least rent before you buy)
This is just one old failed Leica Guy's experience
Well, embarrassed to tell all Leicas, I have owned most are gone, still have and use M7 and Q…..now time for another…. That probably will be it…
Whenever I get the urge to buy something new I ask 3 questions: will it make me a better photographer; will it give me capabilities that I will use that I don't have already; will it increase my keeper rate (I mainly shoot birds). The answer to question 1 is almost always no, but I do sometimes answer yes to questions 2 and 3. If you get a yes or two, go for it.
I’m curious . . . Why an M-P/Type 240 rather than one of the newer M series? Like you, I’ve been through most of the previous Leica Ms (starting with the M3) and currently shoot an M10-R. In my view, the M10-R is pretty much the “perfect” Leica rangefinder. I’m currently out in Arizona with the M10-R (left the Leica Q and the Nikon home), and I love it. Rangefinders aren’t for everyone, but that’s what I learned on, and I still enjoy that style of photography. And Leica lenses are still world class. So, I completely understand the itch . . . wouldn’t blame you if you decided to scratch it.
I share the sentiments expressed here having started with a Leica iiif in 1950 now with f2 50mm Summicron still going strong. Around 2013 acquired Fuji mirrorless and now have two Fuji X-T5 bodies with assorted Fujinon XF lenses. Superb Fuji results with jpeg and Fuji film simulations. Hard to beat. Then comes along the Leica Q cameras. After renting from lens rentals.com (excellent folks), I recently bought a new Leica Q3 which I’ve been shooting in DNG and Lightroom 6.1. As I’ve previously posted, there is an intangible, undefinable quality to Leica images. Call it what you will, but it’s there. Lately I’ve been reaching for the Leica Q3 for local scenics; that 28mm f1.7 Summilux lens grows on you. Just my two cents worth.
Thank you all.. appreciate your feedback
I am now closing down…No final decision as yet

Interesting! I am 79 years old and am having a 1955 model Rolleiflex 2.8D restored. I have also restored a Crown Graphic Special 4 X 5. I plan to engage in black and white film photography with both cameras. I have had the Rollei since I was a teen and once had a Crown Graphic exactly like the one I bought and restored.
I have up-to-date mirrorless Canons, and I will keep using them, but I enjoyed the two film cameras and using them will be like reuniting with old friends.
