Simple way to quell that theory, write the date the same way as most of the rest of the world.

About the fourth for me. First one I was about 21, still home with the folks & roll in from partying about 1-1/2 - 2 hrs before having to go to work about 3 times a week. Thought it was my father kicking the bed to tell me to get up for work before he left to work. I sat up saying yo, I'm up, I'm up with no one there & thought I was dreaming. Yesterday I was pouring water in the coffee pot when it happened. Strongest I felt. Looked into the Living room 7 a bookcase my brother made me & the top was shaking back & forth about 5-6". Thought it was gonna go over & a framed family photo on top fell over with some glass jar candles moved rite to the edge of the bookcase. Felt another tremor in the late afternoon say 4:30/5:30 pm. Didn't bother looking at the time.

My first experience with an earthquake was in Millington, TN in the mid 70’s. Found out that the Mississippi river is part of the New Madrid Seismic Zone which is the most active fault zone in the USA. Second, and subsequent experiences were in San Jose, CA in the ‘80s (San Andreas Fault) - thankfully no injuries to family or friends. One quake was a roller (like a ripple in a lake) and it popped a blimp hangar door off that fell on a couple of vehicles and flattened them.
I was at the gym when it happened and didn’t find out about it ‘til I got home. My wife said the house shook, dishes rattled, pictures on the wall shook but no damage. I like to think my workout at the gym was so intense I just pushed thru it😂
I live about 5 miles from the center of the quake. We also had another around 6:00 PM. Loud bang, then our building shook for 20 seconds. It was a bit scary but mostly puzzling until the news clarified the cause.

Get ready for next big Hollywood disaster film! The 'BIG ONE' is no longer a California concern. See the destruction of the east coast in vivid color and sound.

I've felt maybe three or four tremors in my 76 years here. I felt nothing here in NW Pennsylvania from this latest NY/NJ episode. The last time I felt a tremor was from a quake in upstate NY about eight or ten years ago. I and several others were in an employee raining session when there was a slight wiggling(?) of the building we were in. One person attributed it to the road workers repaving the street out front of the building. An example of the people to which you referred in the last paragraph of your post.

Although I’ve lived in California since 1980, the first earthquake I felt was in 1978 living in New Jersey.
We were having dinner when we heard a roar which sounded like a huge jet engine and then our dining room chandelier started swinging back and forth. Turned on the TV and sure enough the News reported an earthquake.
Here in Central Oklahoma we have a number of quakes in the last couple years all blamed on oil industry. Who knows. Most have been kinda together in the 3 to 4 range maybe a 5 rattler. On the metric system it was explained to me that the biggest obstacle was the land measurements all in inches, miles etc. To convert would be a nightmare. Just sayin
