Blend mode

Most of the PS CC 'gurus' and teachers do not give users the options of using blend modes correctly. They all refer to the Opacity option instead of using the Fill option that works much better.

I am well aware that many folks say that 'using fill' is only good when creating text layers. This could not be more wrong.

What you must know is that 'Fill' is good for you, but... Yes, there is one, it does not apply to all blend modes.

Darken and lighten blend modes can basically create an effect similar to dodge and burn. Use that with most adjustment layers and you gain an incredible color control. Add the color attribute blend modes and the color control freaks are in heaven, especially if used with 'Blend if' four options (gray and RGB).

Sure this can appear 'advanced' for many. Once you train yourself to use these modes in conjunction with 'Fill' it becomes easier.

When in comes to sharpening, use contrast modes the same way as you would to control colors.

The so-called 'Equation' blend modes are interesting. They are relatively hard to use and harder to explain.

I use to watch the F64 Acadamy you tube channel (pretty sure Blake Rudis is his name) but stopped because I don't have PS. He use to do a lot of Blend If vids & talk about color. One would have to experiment with all adjustments/buttons & sliders to see what can be done with that extremely capable program. I'm a light weight when it comes to editing & use LR6 7 Affinity Photo V1 yet. Only messed with layers, adjustment layers & blend modes a couple of times. Have fun.
