Hello, advice needed....Does anyone know how to safely turn off or eliminate this (Photo Folder) unwanted function. It populates whenever I view or edit a photo in any application or viewer on my computer. I'm constantly emptying it...since I haven't found any use for it. Thanks for the help in advance....

Look in your editor setup (configuration) for saving or working directory locations.
It may default to that one.

When you say "view", you don't say with "what" or "how".
LOTS of options therein........

When I "view" with Explorer or Windows Photo viewer, they do not put anything in a "Photo Folder".

Thanks Longshadow.....this is crazy... If I open my webpage (SmugMug) and view a photo file (still on my computer) that I have posted, the Photo Folder captures that file/activity.

When I open any editing application and just look at a file...the Photo Folder creates a file and in an appropriate named sub-folder for that application...(Luminar, Lightroom, Capture 1, Exposure 7, DXO)...separate from the application. I constantly deleting these (duplicate) files....they're are still in the appropriate LR catalog.

I'm thinking of deleting the "Photo Folder" since I can't find the setting to "turn it off" and it serves no purpose. I'm not using cloud storage... I just don't wast to screw up something else.

Photo Folder, if it's a directory, does not create files, applications do.
SOMETHING (application) is set to use a directory called "Photo Folder".

Are you "viewing" on Smugmug or "downloading" (to view it) from Smugmug"???
"Downloading" here at UHH is a misnomer, it doesn't download the file to your computer, the BROWSER downloads it to browser cache to display it, not a file to your computer.

Downloading something from the web WILL download the file to your computer.
I have my browser set to ask me WHERE to put the file.
It might be your browser that is downloading to a "default" directory.
