I want to purchase a lightning trigger and would be most appreciative of advise regarding which trigger to purchase.
i have one don't remember what the make is but best advice is to get the smallest one that you can get. It will just make is so much easier to setup and use
THanks for the comment. I have narrowed down my choices to two; The MK Controls Lightrning Bug and the MIOPS Smart Plus

I have the exact same one, works great
Miops hands down, unless you're handy with a soldering iron & want to make your own for about $12 in parts

One bit of advice about a small problem I had. I forget the make of the trigger I had. Small. Worked great. Came with a little Pelican case. It was very sensitive. So sensitive that lightning strikes off to the side, out of visual range of my camera, would trigger it. I shortened the tube from a roll of toilet paper. It would flatten down just enough to fit over the end of the trigger and act like a lens hood to eliminate flashes from the side. Problem solved!
I have a Lightning Trigger (brand name) and have been happy with it. I'd be interested in hearing your comments if you go with MIOPS.
I have the MIOPS Remote Plus which is no longer made, (although some retailers apparently still have stock). It’s not as full featured as the MIOPS Smart or Smart+ and you need a cellphone app to use it, but it still is more versatile than the MK Controls Lightning Trigger. The MK apparently works well but it’s a one trick pony. With MIOPS you can also do sound, motion and infrared triggers and it has several different intervalometer modes. I’m not sure what the Pluto trigger can do, but it’s considerably less expensive than the other two.
I have a Pluto. Really great.

The MK Controls Lightning Bug II was recommended by the leader of the storm chasing workshop that I attended. The learning curve was short and I got a bunch of good shots. Setting the sensitivity was trial and error and depended on the situation, but I found it a big help in capturing lightning, especially in the daytime.
