On Thursday evening, I found a very nice copy of a Citizen Navihawk Blue Angels watch. It was a matter of using "Buy It Now" to complete. The seller got the watch to the PO in Warren, MI on Friday AM. I live about twelve miles from there, so I figured I'd have my watch by Saturday.

Wrong guess, Bucko!!!

I entered the tracking number on Saturday, and my watch had been shipped to Cincinnati, OH, and was sitting at their main PO, not being return-shipped, until Sunday night. It did get to the Detroit PO by early Monday AM, and the Dearborn PO delivered my watch today, at @ 5PM.

Talk about the long way around Robin Hood's barn!!!

Yes I would have driven the distance and have the watch same day. But I guess that's how the USPS loses money. I once send a package from North Texas to South Texas and the package went to San Diego CA before it came back.
Another time I sent a package to New Jersey and it got to New Jersey quickly but going around several town in NJ before it got to destination. So more than once the USPS ships packages around the long way.

Practically, that was not an option for personal reasons.

I could mail something 200' down the street & it will go down to Trenton, NJ before it comes back to down the street.

When they closed some of the centers this is what can happen. At one time there was a center in western MD, now a letter for someone down the block goes to Baltimore first, then comes back.

While I agree with the sentiments shown here, remember this: Congress first dumped retirement funding for past years on the post office, ever since they demand the P.O. become profitable, but have stopped virtually every effort made any administration to change anything. Closing some of the centers was the only thing congress allowed in the last effort to my knowledge.

And no I never worked for them!

The USPS consolidated all their sorting facilities into regional facilities quite some time ago, so it's very unusual to get anything quickly from USPS in my experience. On the other hand, years ago I worked with a guy who had a difficult time getting his bills paid on time. We were in Atlanta, and stopped by a USPS facility late in the day so my friend could send his payment overnight. The postal clerk got a funny look on his face and informed my friend that the P.O. Box on the address line was in that very Post Office, so not overnight delivery required!

Had a problem two times with the USPS, one time I had sent my monthly rent check from the Post Office about half a mile from the ladlords home address. It never showed up and never was cashed. The second time was about 4 years later, I had mailed the rent payment at the USPS again about half a mile from the landlords address. This one took a tour of most of the US East of the Mississippi. It had ink stamps on it, at the time, I lived in San Jose, CA and the landlord was in Campbell, CA about 5 miles from the rental house. The USPS purple stamps showed it was in St Louis, MO, Detroit, MI, Atanta, GA, Philadelphia, PA, New Orleans, LA and a few others, before it came home to San Jose, CA.

USPS was a better organization when it was a Govt institution.

Every now and then I get a package delivered by them.

It's always a hoot to get their emails...

Typical pattern...

1.) On it's way by xx/xx
2.) Oops, delayed till xx/xx
3.) Will be delivered tomorrow
4.) Delivered (it wasn't)
5.) On it's way...Track your package!
6.) Delivered. (finally)
7.) Notice...will be delivered tomorrow.

A fine institution.

I won't give my details of my latest annoyance except to say that it took from March 25 to April 4 for a package to make it from Kansas City Kansas to my place in St Joseph Mo. about 80 miles. I also am waiting for a package that was sent from Wisconsin on March 20th. We have a Republican Congressman here in St Joseph and a Democratic one in Kansas City. I doubt if they agree on much of anything, but they have joined together to look into the mail service in our area.
