A first for me

I knew elephants and bison would pay respects when one of them died. I also know they will fend off the predators for a time. However while we were watching the coyotes continue to feast on a bison I notice one or two bison coming their way. I wondered what would happen and the coyotes ran off while the bison continued to approach the carcass. They sniffed around and nudged the head. It surprised me when someone said they were paying their respects, or a bison funeral. It surprised me since the bison had obviously been dead for a couple days by what was left. I didn't expect them to visit this bison when it was so far gone...
