U.S. Army 66-72. Drafted and contrary to all of the warnings, volunteered for everything. Armor OCS and rotary-wing flight school. One tour flying scouts in an Air Cavalry squadron (Ruthlessrider) in the central highlands then small arms and aviation weapons instructor at the Armor School. Left in RIF as a Captain.

US Army 1954-1956, guided missile crewman, Spec 2. Ran out of money for college, volunteered for the draft, gave them 2 years, got the GI Bill and finished college. Good trade, very thankful.

US Army, 20 years active duty, retired 31 years ago. Grade at the time: SFC E-7. A few months after my retirement was approved, the E-8 list came out with my name on it, but they wouldn't let me cancel to accept the promotion.
