Most of the world has strict standards for olive oil. The USA also has standards, but they're voluntary. No surprise there. 🤣

When you buy olive oil in this country, you have no idea what your actually getting, regardless of brand or price. Only California has stricter standards than the International Olive Council (IOC).

This is hardly anything new, and there are many online articles about fake and doctored olive oil. I buy the 3-liter bottle of Extra Virgin from Sam's club and hope for the best.

If you want to test how much 'olive' there is in your bottle of olive oil. Put it in the fridge.
Olive oil is a 'fat' so pure oil will solidify in the fridge and go cloudy. Leave for about 24 hours.

After this test, when allowed to warm, will it return to original color, consistency, taste?

I've always believed my previously mentioned 'Olive Oil Test' even before we had the advantage of Dr Google.
Seems I was wrong. Read here https://www.aboutoliveoil.org/extra-virgin-olive-oil-fridge-test-myth

Yes, you can also store olive oil in the freezer, tho why you would want to escapes me, but it won't harm the oil, when it goes clear again, tastes fine.

Ah, I've seen that happen in the winter where I sometimes keep the olive oil.

But my problem is that I don't know how olive oil should taste. They do taste different but I don't particularly like one over the others and I really don't like anyone of them very much.

Aw Gee, the faked olive oil cartels are quaking in their rubbers . . . .

And wasn’t Popeye’s skinny-squeeze Olive Oyl ?

I watched a 45 minute video about olive oil and here are three takeaways: It must be from a single source (one country only — make sure it doesn’t list several countries on the label), it must be cold pressed, and shipped in glass bottles. I recently found a one liter bottle at Sam’s that checked all those boxes. It sold for just under 18.00. More expensive than the larger size, but according to the video, worth it.

It seems that the word "must" is very flexible.

Can you post a link to that video?
