This guy was a genius at his craft. Every single feather is individually carved. There's nothing about it that isn't absolutely correct. The coloration is spot on. The bird is life size...8 inches from top of head to tip of tail.

Sadly, he's deceased now. He was one of six exceptional artist invited to attend the launching of a major philanthropy association in Jacksonville. Each artist had his own room to display his art. He had done a huge, life size, piliated woodpecker that I swear looked like it could fly away. I casually asked if he did commision work. Long story short, he did on a limited basis. I had experienced an encounter with a screech owl a couple of weeks before and I asked him if he would consider doing one for me. He said to let him think about it. And if he decided to do it, he would let me know.

A few weeks later, he called and said he would do it. The next thing he said just blew me away....when it was finished, he would ship it to me and, if I liked it , keep it and send the money to him . If I didn't like it , ship it back. I mean, what artist of his stature would do that? Well, as you can see, I could not get the money to him quick enough
to him.

It is that, for sure, Barbara. I can't pass by it without looking at it....and, also, without thinking of the artist.

It is, Don. I used to keep it under a glass dome. However, it shows better without it.

I feel very fortunate to have it, Mike, but I'm equally thankful that I got to meet the man who created it.

Wow!! That is trust! Especially with something that I'm sure took hours to create. Like you, I would have had the money in the mail the next day. Thank you for sharing that with me.

I'm sad that he has passed. A definite loss to the art world!

Hi, Dodie.

I showed the owl to a couple of the people who had organized the event. One of them also had a carving he had done...according to her, a spectacular blue jay. She asked me to bring my carving to the next general meeting of the group and she would bring the blue jay. I can't wait to se that one.

I see we shoot with the same Nikon gear, a D810 and a D750.
