Whole Lot of Missing Water

Stopped this morning at Bellerive Park and snapped a view of the Mississippi. OMG! It's March and that sandbar shouldn't be there and the wing dike at the far right edge of the frame should be under two feet of muddy water. I can't say I've ever seen it this low in the Spring.

Many of us are going to have to pay the piper for having missed so much snow this winter

A beautiful shot, Y

It's been this way for as long as there has been a Mississippi River!

The Mississippi has been plagued by low water problems for over a year now. Even got quite low at the New Orleans end. Did you happen to get any of those barge numbers so I could tell who the owner was?

I was aware of really low water last Summer and Fall. I just assumed there had to be some amount of snow melt for a more normal Spring flush. This was a shocker.

Ysarex, Great picture of the "Big Muddy" and I enjoy viewing all of your posts. A low Mississippi is a bellwether of things to come. I've attached a copy of the nation's river drainage map. The Mississippi is the center magenta-colored area which shows how much of the nation's rivers flow into it. When the Mississippi is low, it tells us that a vast area of the nation is low and is in much need of water. Wars have been fought over oil, future wars will be fought over fresh water.

WOW. That's low - especially for spring. This may mess with transportation.

I lived in New Orleans for a while. I can remember so much water that the boats were almost to the top
