This is funny! I've been getting daily emails from ScanCafe telling me to download photo files that I have stored on their site. I figured that I might as well take a look. After signing in, I saw that I had two files from 2014. Each file would have held hundreds of converted slides. When I clicked on "Download," I get a message telling me that my download privileges expired after thirty days, but I could "join" and pay $9.95 a month to download them. Since I downloaded them ten years ago, I don't think I have to download them again - for $9.95.
I can strongly recommendation to ScanCafe. You send them your slides, and they scan them. They send you a link to view them and delete up to 10% (I think). Then they do the final scan, making corrections so the pictures look like new. When they are finished, you get a link to download everything. In the meantime, they drop a CD/DVD in the mail and send them to you on a disk. They also return all of your slides, of course. If I come across any more slides, I will definitely have ScanCafe digitize them, rather than scan them myself.
I rather scan them myself.

There's the "fun" factor vs getting excellent results. They cleaned the slides and corrected the color.
