TV vs Internet

I dread calling Spectrum, but I'll do that later. Maybe.
Can someone explain this to me? My Spectrum bill lists Cable TV and Internet, with separate charges for each. I do not get any local stations - NBC, ABC, etc. - and I watch TV with Roku, Chromecast, or Amazon Firestick. I have the Internet available for computers and landline. So, what do you think I'm paying for? If I call Spectrum, and if they are able to give me an answer, I'll let you know.

Spectrum charges you for Cable TV if you have it. You can have Spectrum Internet without Cable TV and thus would be a lot cheaper. I have all the standard network TV like ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS via the antenna.

You have cable and internet.
Internet is simply a different method of also getting what may be available on cable.
Two sources of "information" are available, different methods of distribution (transmission), different content/abilities.

If you have Spectrum cable you should have a cable box. Even without the cable box you can watch tv by going to Spectrumtv.net.

No cable box. I could pay even more every month if I had a Spectrum DVR.

Yes the DVR feature is like $10 extra. But the DVR is only a feature, it's not the DVR because it doesn't store the video locally. But any way you shouldn't have to pay for the Cable TV to Spectrum. It would cut your bill in half.

Not exactly...
One provider's pricing (as probably most) is higher for either cable or internet individually. Exch discounted for having both. In other words, if one dropped cable, internet would most likely go up.

Yes it's about half because the TV part is generally more than the internet part.

With your provider maybe.
With mine internet price goes up, so much of the "savings" of dropping cable goes away.

My original DVD from Time-Warner had a certain capacity, and it stored the shows on an internal HDD.

Jerry, how long has your Spectrum bill been showing both cable tv and internet? Did you have cable tv at one point and then cancel it? Or thought you canceled it? Or planned to cancel it, but forgot to do so??? 
The bundles generally save $5 - $15. Spectrum tv, with a couple of extras, like sports, was costing me over $200/month a few years ago. Canceling that, my internet and landline bundle went up just $5.00.

I cancelled TV last May, and my bill went from $212 to $105. Now it's gone up to $220. I have my landline through Ooma. I pay nothing to Ooma, just $6.73/month in state tax.

Also Spectrum doesn't seem to increase ther internet price much but they increase their cable TV price greatly. So if you don't want Cable TV you should cancel it.
