Product Waste As a Sales Enhancer

Pet peeve department. I shave with an electric razor, and use a pre-shave lotion, which helps give a closer shave. There's a plastic plug in the top of the bottle with a hole to limit how much lotion comes out of the bottle. I recently bought a new bottle of the stuff, and noticed that they've made the hole a lot bigger. The result is that too much lotion comes out of the bottle, resulting in wasting a lot of it. That probably is driving sales up this year!

But they'll probably tell you that people don't want to waste time shaking the bottle a couple of times, the larger opening is faster.......

Why I quit shaving years ago. It got down to deciding between razor blades or Irish Whisky. The choice was easy

I use an electric.
(But my shadow doesn't start showing up at 2 PM either.)

I'm still trying to understand how one roll of toilet paper is now equal to six.

Yeah, that one gets me too. Or the 12oz bag or can of coffee that makes as much as a full pound.

Maybe you're doing too much thinking about this. You still have control over how much fluid comes out of the bottle. Can you remove the top from an old bottle and put it on the new one?

Related - When I buy a bottle of isopropyl alcohol or peroxide, there is always an aluminum seal over the top. Instead of removing it, I poke a pin hole in the foil so I can get a small amount of liquid out.

I hate getting just three pints of ice cream in what used to be a half gallon container. Stewart's lowered the price of their "sale" ice cream from $4.13 back to $3.99. I wonder if the short-lived $4.13 was an experiment. Hannaford always sells its three pints for $2.99, which is about the same as Stewart's $3.99 for a half gallon. The three-pint package doesn't last long enough.

I used to have so-called 'film pens' on subscription from Amazon, $1.96 for a two-pack.

Amazon cancelled my subscription as 'the product is no longer available' and recommended an alternative: the same pens, but single packed, for $2.99 each.

It's very simple economics.......The bigger the hole, the more product comes out...Half of which is wasted, so the more you use, the faster you use up the product the sooner you will buy more! And, that is the whole idea...use more so that you need to buy more, giving the company more profits off your hard earned money.

I seem to recall that the catalog listing for Sears radial arm saw that I bought ~50 years ago said something like "1/4 HP motor produces 1.5 HP." All of their stationary tools had that kind of description. Advertising has always contained a lot of fantasy.

It's the RAPE OF AMERICA. Packages getting smaller and price increases. And the corporations are getting fatter.

Yes, that's one of my pet peeves. It's especially bad when you need a specific amount - and it isn't there. I remember when a can of tuna fish made a better sandwich - or two.
