Zeiss is the one that should be making this lens - it can be done very well - like the lens on the RX10 ! - even tho Tamron has been upping their came lately.....

Tamron's "upped game" is still in the "minor league" of the photographic world.

Nikon just announced this lens tonight. it's a 28-400 f/4-8 lens which is a deal breaker for me. Don't need 8.0 at 400mm. Weighs 725 grams or 25.6 oz or 1.6 lbs. Price is $1,299 and it's not an S series lens. Nice for a travel lens, perhaps, but not a fast lens.

Worse...it's hits f/8 at 200mm.

I'm their target market becuase I'm largely a fair weather photographer and it's a fair weather lens. Flowers, bugs, and the occasional sitting bird. Having said that, check out the Matt Irwin review posted elsewhere in this thread and see his samples... wow! Unless the slew of reviewers that will soon follow come up with some really glaring faults, it sure looks good to me.

Great...a high noon lens...for those time when all of the colors are so saturated...

No thanks...Nikon can make great lenses...this isn't one of them.

I hope it's true... just read a rumor that a 28-400 Nikon Z mount lens is in the pipeline. I really miss my Tamron 28-400 which doesn't work with the FTZ.

They haven't sold one yet and won't for two weeks, but it's already their #1 seller? Look out waiting lists.
