This shot turned out much better than I hoped. No time for a perfect rule-of-thirds composition.
Happy Birthday .... glad that you turned back.
Wonderful photo. Thrilled for you.

This comment pretty much rules you out as someone whose critique Iād value.
Thaz too bad, cuz I checked your archive. Ignoring family pix, I had some positive reactions to the few photos I found there.
OTOH, a difference between us is that Id never gotten brainwashed about AAs big "Moonrise". A spade is a spade is spade.
Everyone knows the back story, cuz AA promoted it. But the story is all there is. Without its story its just a darkish scenic.
Just a case of the emperors new clothes.
Jon did post his own back story, but that image holds up on its own, despite my wanting to tweak it to my personal taste. "Moonrise" is supposedly already 100% maximally tweaked, by AA, as delivered.

I drove about 3/4 of a mile past this scene right at dusk before thinking, "What am I doing?" The light was fading fast and I knew I had to hurry, so I "whupped" the car around and flew back to that field, praying that the horse would still be there and that it wasn't already too dark for a good exposure. I whirled the car around and parked in the only possible location where I wouldn't block traffic (there was none on that country road, fortunately). I shot out the driver's side window with the ISO set to 2000 and the lens zoomed to the max (140 mm). That's all I recall about the exposure, because I was working very rapidly (I hate being rushed like that but I knew I had to work fast or the light would be gone). It was my 80th birthday. I think the horse and I were the same age.

Excellent landscape, Jon! And a Very Happy Birthday ( including many more to come š)
