It needs to die and be replaced by something that is not totally insane and all about money. I know. It's a pipe dream.

Yeah, college sports in the US is crazy and deeply corrupt. But I don't see how that would lead to its demise. Personally I don't see how anything can stop it short of a government take-over. And that won't ever happen.

The transfer portal, money, tv contracts, and hopping schools to more lucrative conferences all contribute to the NCAA’s decline/demise.

If there is corruption in college level sports, what guarantees it is not also present in professional and major league sports? With the high prices for sporting events, all the hype, the huge and outrageous salaries for the players, the cost of stadiums, and on and on, can corruption be ruled out completely?

Obviously I am not a huge sports fan. However, I can appreciate that many people do get much enjoyment from watching and rooting sports. Comments are sure to be made, but please don't be too harsh, let's keep it civil.

Read the story in the RS link; given the wealth involved, not at all surprising. I also agree that NCAA might be forced to overhaul the rules so they actually mean something, but it's unlikely the organization would be abolished and even less so that the Feds would take over; talk about the blind leading the blind!

This is similar to what Texas A.G. Ken Paxton was indicted for nine years ago. It's just hit the news that most of the charges are being dropped.

Unfortunately, it's what the public wants.

More proof that the public's common sense, understanding and intelligence is badly in need of repair. It also proves how prevalent and distorted this country's herd mentality is and how easy it is to lead much of the population around by the nose and tell them they are happy.

You can't believe how much television changed things, esp. color. I grew up going to Michigan games with my Dad in the fifties and sixties. It was all laid back and somewhat idyllic. Michigan even had trouble filling the stands except for two games, Michigan State and Ohio State, until Bo beat Woody in that epic in 1969 that changed Michigan football forever. For the next ten years, no matter where they were in the standings, and it was quite often near the top, Bo vs. Woody was the best show to be seen, always at the end of the season with Conference and National consequences. The greatest 10 year years of college football, in my opinion, all before scholarship reductions, which meant that both the offenses and defenses were just as strong.

The NIL contracts seem to have gotten out of hand. Too much money involved for there to not be some measure of corruption. We'll see where it leads...

The top prospects are already asking schools how much they will be able to make by coming to their school. Apparently if differs from school to school. It also makes a difference if one school promises a freshman a lot of playing time, meaning more NIL money, than another school. Why do you think Saban quit? The whole thing guts the traditional method of building a team so that mostly juniors and seniors start and freshman and sophomores work, pay their dues and become better athletes along the way.
