Looks great. Long ago (70s) I went on a summer field school to SW Mexico and our group took up 2/3 of an old town house turned small hotel (Hotel Mi Solar-has an online mention so still in business) in Uruapan, Michoacán built by some hacienda owner back in the colonial days. Beautiful workmanship and details throughout. Very much like the place you stayed. It had been modernized with electricity and running water.

A family owned and ran it as a hotel that specialized in traveling salesmen etc. The head cook had turned those salesmen into "recipe collectors" bringing her dishes from all over Mexico and Central America. One of them got into it so much he learned how to cook the recipes he found and scheduled an extra day in town so he could prepare and teach in the kitchen. During our summer there we got to try a couple of his new discovers. Even some of the millionaire landowners of the area would come there to eat and often send a cook to learn the new dishes. Some of the big hotels sent cooks to learn dishes also. Lunch was really busy with the local businessmen coming to eat.

I see on one online site it is listed as a 3 Star but guest ratings are a 4.6/4.7. It also seems to be enlarged, maybe they took over the buildings next door. I know during the summer our field school was there they almost never had a vacant room and at meals they often had people from the area waiting for a chance to eat.

I love these old places. They are a strong connection to the past.

A stunning variety of outstanding shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A stone seat? I remember sitting on the cold cement of the front porch of our first house. My mom always told me not to sit like that too long because I would get "piles." What horror those stone seats must wreak

I have to admit these stone seats aren't very comfortable. But if that's all one has and one has been working all day in the fields, I imagine it would be welcome. And they are pretty.

Looks like a very interesting place to explore Kathy. Your images bring that out very well.

I spent 10 days working in Ecuador on a medical mission in the Riobamba area. We stayed in this wonderful old hostal called La Andaluz. The original buildings date back hundreds of years, and the interior is full of creaky boards, old stone steps, and "haunted" hallways. They have wonderful collections of old stuff and beautiful flowers (of course, this is Ecuador, so everything grows!).

Thanks, Don. I've spent a lot of time there, and have only scratched the surface.

Very interesting and widely varying look at a part of the world I'll never get a chance to visit. Like others, I really liked the flowers. I think the reason that stone bench in the first picture has lasted so long is I don't think anyone sits in it. It sure doesn't look very comfortable. Good work and thanks for sharing.

These are marvelous, and they tell me your arm must be healing nicely. Either that or you toughed it out. Either way, good job.

Thank you. Their flowers are lovely. Orchids grow like dandelions in the sidewalk cracks.

More toughed out than healed, but I managed. Thank you.
