I've used it on my T3i for about six months and was concerned about the warning on their download page about using at your own risk but after reading what other people that were using it said, I found that was just a a security clause to help prevent the developers from a law suit in case something did go wrong. There are thousands of users and no one as yet has had a problem with a damaged camera from it, there is always the chance of a computer program causing a conflict with other software, this is just a program that installs on your camera and runs along side of the camera firmware to add features that Canon didn't feel the average user would want or need. It is quite COMPLICATED and you can change (about 100) settings that can make your photos worse as well as better, it's not for everyone. Until you know how to use the menu settings that are already in your camera you probably shouldn't be trying to use Magic Lantern. If you do decide to install it and then want to remove it you can always reformat the SD card to remove it or use another card without ML on it. It resides on your memory card and each time you turn your camera on your camera's firmware will look for it on the SD card, if it's there it will load and if not the camera boots to its regular program. Search for it on YouTube, there are several videos that shows it in use and how to set it up for different uses. Most people use it for shooting video, it has several setting especially for that, I don't use it that much but did install it to all my SD cards, there are a couple settings that I like, one is Magic Zoom, one click on the zoom button goes to full zoom when viewing the shots you've made and you can also override the camera's default setting of only 3 shots when doing bracketing for HDR. Go for it if you have needs for more features than Canon wanted you to have and don't get in a hurry, there are more features than you can try for quite some time.

I use it in my T2i and would not be without it. I think it rocks. It allows me to do so much more than my camera was capable of before. It does not install on your camera but installs on your memory card and can be bypassed when you start your camera if you want. It adds so much more functionality to your camera that there is not time to describe it. You should have a grasp on how to use your camera and the terminology and the good thing is that if you don't like it you can format your memory card and it is gone. You do have to have it installed on every memory card that you use if you want to use it all of the time and if you format your card you will have to re-install it. I really like it.

I have used it for quite a while on my T2i. The main reason was for some of the video enhancements, the ability to adjust the volume in videos, and the ability to select ISO values such as 160 and 320.

There are so many tweaks that most people would find a few that they cannot get along without. The instruction manual is very clear and concise. Also, there is a lot of online resources available.

I may be wrong, but I believe that during initial installation Magic Lantern makes a modification to the camera firmware so that it knows know to load the software when a SD card with ML on is powered up. I also believe that the firmware modification is reversible using the instructions provided on the web page.

It changes a setting in the firmware to allow the camera to load from the memory card. Yes, you can change the setting back easily. If you don't want to use ML, format the card or use a different card.

I too have been thinking about getting this for my 7D but as this version is still in Beta form i've not d/l it yet, and to be honest I don't know how it will benefit me, especially as I don't shoot video... and does seem to lean towards video.

My way of thinking has always been, do I really need it and if so how will it improve my photography?...and this goes for cameras, lenses and accessories too :O)

If you send me a PM with your email address, I can send you the instruction manual for ML V. 2.3.
