I have had multiple visits over this issue and they have fancy names but the Doctor basically says “you’re old”. They are experts at collecting the fee and avoiding any kind of treatment that might cost them money. Welcome to health care in the USA in 2024. Sorry for the rant.

I’m sorry you have had such a poor experience with US healthcare. Over my 80 years on earth I have had multiple encounters with US healthcare, all ending up with positive outcomes. Fortunately, none were life threatening. Your experience may be a result of a poor choice of physicians, lousy or no insurance, or plain miscommunication with your provider. BTW, treatment does not cost the physician money. The cost of therapy is borne by your insurance or you. I hope you can find more success the next time you need medical care.

As mentioned in another post reply, check the focus clutch ring. I have bumped it a number of times and wonder why I am not getting auto-focus before checking the clutch ring.

Are you using the lens hood ? I use it and so never knew the ring can move, cuz the hood always prevented my accidentally moving it.

Guess theres differences in how we handle or hold the gear. My 12-100 lives on a relatively large body (EM1-III). Maybe a small gripless body (Pen-F ?) would alter my experience by adding more responsibility onto my left hand.

Back story.
My go-to travel, adventure, hiking and backpacking, and all around every day camera is my OM-1. I also shoot with Nikon. I took my Nikon Z8 on a recent trip, instead of my OM-1. This was a departure from normal for me but I wanted to get to know the Z8. And it worked I got to know it and like it very much. One of my lenses was the Nikkor Z 24-100 F4-6.3 and I found it to be a fabulous lens, good IQ, fast focusing, good handling, and a fabulous focal range for travel. But the lens + body is over 2 kG (measured) and one of my flights had a 7kG limit. I had to throw out much stuff to take my camera, Ok I don't need 5g of suntan lotion I can buy when I get there, I was counting grams, but dammed be hell I was taking that camera. The other downside is it is a big camera, and people notice it. People do not notice my Olympus so much. M43 is still the king for Travel photography.

So I wondered, does Olympus, new name OM System, makes a similar focal length lens? And yes they do! It is their ED 12-100mm f4 IS PRO. I decided "I'm taking that lens on my next trip." So I ordered one.
End of back story.

The Reason for this post.
I received my new OM System ED 12-100mm f4 IS PRO, eagerly opened the package and mounted it on my OM-1 and... it will not autofocus. Disappointed. <snip>...

SO why post here?
Maybe I am missing something. <snip>...

UPDATE:
After all that I resorted to RTFM and it says "slide the focus ring forward to enable autofocus." Ok that was not intuitive to me but the problem is resolved. The lenses auto-focuses as expected.

That’s a common issue with that Olympus manual focus “clutch”. It’s really great for a quick switch to manual but it took a few times of freaking out before I learned to check that first. I also shoot both an OM-1 and FF Nikon, (Z9), and when I fly the OM-1 is my travel camera, (if I’m driving just about everything goes). In 2022 when hiking the Scottish highlands the 12-40 was all I used 99% of the time. I picked up the 12-100 before hiking in Tuscany last year and it’s a perfect travel combo. One thing I love is city night shooting and the OM-1 with Live ND and Live Composite is a joy.

so sorry for the typo on my part. The Z lens is 24-200mm f4-6.3.

That is the same field of view as 12-100mm on M43 cameras.

The really nice thing about that 12-100 is the constant f/4

We keep laughing at the faulty ergonomics of Sony too. When you handle equipment designed to be intuitive, natural, you really understand the difference.

It’s actually a great design, you just to realize it’s there.

With the small OM primes you soon enough notice that its there, asking yourself why you see a DoF scale but no focus scale. So you assume the collar must move back to unhide the focus scale, and then comes the dawn, with the reward of real mechanical focus :-)

There is a setting in the OM1 that enables/disables the MF Clutch (3 AF Tab > 3.6 MF > MF Clutch). If you aren't using it, it is wise to disable it so you don't get caught unawares.

That is also in older models.
I always keep it enabled.

ha I resemble that remark about the manual clutch! It seems to me the OM is more advanced electronically. The OM has some nice electronics features as you noted and another one is it has ann easy to use reliable WiFi download function. I got the WiFi to work once on my Nikon. Have tried many times since but no success.
I like them both and who says you have to be limited to one camera?

Some older models do not have it, some had it added in later firmware updates. I did not want to go into that, but rather address the speciic menu setting in the OM1.

You must be referring to this (pic below). Thank you for that tip! Very good to know about that.
